Outdoors: Topwater bass action starting to hit stride

Outdoors: Topwater bass action starting to hit stride: "Bass fishing is heating up. The topwater action we usually see in early May is really just starting. In reviewing my fishing logs, it seems to be about one month behind schedule. In late spring and early summer, the herring that were introduced to Lake Lanier over a decade ago started spawning out on the main lake."

Never Give Up On That Lunker | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "It was already June 5th and the bass were not fully spawning like other years. The daytime temperature was barely 55 degrees and a lot colder during the night. It was a bright sunny morning and the water was clear as glass. The weeds have not even begun to grow. Welcome to western New York.
As I looked over the bridge I could clearly see the bottom. Where are all the bass? Boy was I frustrated. Last year at this time I was hooking a lunker on every cast. Looking 20 feet down from the bridge I was pondering what to do."

If you can comprehend how it moves to escape prey, it will be easier to capture.

If the fish's jawbone goes out past its eyes then it's a huge mouth. If the jawbone stops just before its reddish eye it is a smallmouth. Weight is also an effective way to explain to the two fish aside. A little mouth bass averages seven and a 50 % lbs .. StarTribune.com Mobile | News, weather, sports

StarTribune.com Mobile | News, weather, sports: "Minnesota’s bass fishing season would open statewide on the walleye opener under a proposal by the Department of Natural Resources.

“I’m all for it,’’ said Vern Wagner, a longtime bass-fishing addict and vice president of Anglers for Habitat, which pushed for the change.

There is a caveat: The first two weeks of the bass season would be catch-and-release only everywhere except the northeast, where the season currently opens two weeks before the rest of the state.

“With climate change, bass populations are expanding in Minnesota,’’ said Linda Erickson-Eastwood, DNR fisheries program manager. “We decided to get rid of the split season between the northeast and the rest of the state.’’

Wagner agrees with the DNR that the additional fishing shouldn’t hurt the bass population. The traditional bass opener was intended to protect spawning bass, but Wagner said bass often are spawning even after the season opens.

It is among several proposed fishing regulation changes the DNR intends to adopt and is accepting comments."

I knew that a lot of large bass would stop off at this type of place before going on out to deeper structure for the summer. But perhaps the easiest and most reliable place to find fish is in the weeds.
There are a host of reasons for bass to be in the weeds. The weeds are a constant oxygen source, which attracts baitfish and crawfish, which are food for the bass. Weeds also offer a place for the bass to lie in ambush, waiting for an unsuspecting meal to pass by. And in fairly dense masses, weeds offer shade from the blaring hot sun. Lake Fishing Reports MN Fish Winnie Cass Leech Winnibigoshish Pokegama: "Upper Red Lake was was a friendly place to be on Saturday. There was a bumper crop of anglers, but weather, fishing and good manners combined to make it a great day for most of the fishermen who visited the right areas.
The exception to all of the good fishing reports was that the anglers, including me, who visited the North side of the lake did not find too much to smile about.
I'll never figure some of this stuff out. It's like the lake had a split personality yesterday. The North side was chilly, choppy and void of fish. The South side was warm, calm and teaming with life."

Post-Spawn Fishing | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "The period of the spawn is one of the hardest times to catch bass. In fact if you have had a chance to see the film, Big Mouth, you soon realize from the section of the life cycle of the bass, which covers spawning, that a bass on the nest is not a feeding fish. While some folks do fish for bedding fish (usually by sight fishing), these bass are caught because they are trying to defend their nursery and get the lure out of the nest instead of wanting it as food. Postspawn Beauties | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "Bass spawn at different times in the spring, and on the California Delta, it's no different. By the first of May, the early big fish spawns are completed, and even the smaller guys have pretty much finished their chores. That means there is a long postspawn period when fish can be taken.
For me, the Delta postspawn can be broken down into three or four baits: a frog, a hard topwater bait, a rattlin' crankbait, and believe it or not, a jig. I won't focus too much on the Snagproof frog, because a lot has been said about it recently, and actually, the frog bite generally gets better the closer it gets to summer."

Fishing The Worst Conditions | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "n a perfect world, tournament days for bass anglers would include a slight cloud cover, gorgeous weather, active fish, perfect water temperature and a full moon. However, reality comes crashing down and these ideal conditions rarely occur.  The best anglers are the ones who can roll with the punches and come up with a limit no matter how tough the fishing. The key is versatility.
Better anglers learn to adapt. For example, if their pre-fish patterns do not work during for the first four hours of day one, they fall back on plan B. Adapting is something that Nitro pro Gary Senft of Arizona learned long ago."

StarTribune.com Mobile | News, weather, sports: "Lake Mille Lacs: It was a slow opener on the big lake, coming just three days after the official ice-out on May 7. The spring night ban has been extended and will be in effect until Dec. 1; anglers may not possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. daily. According to Lundeen’s Tackle Castle, anglers should seek warmer waters in the sandy areas on the north end, around Vineland Bay and Big Point. Walleyes still are spawning and won’t be so aggressive, so try to fish slow, small and shallow using medium-sized leeches or minnows.

Alexandria area: Many smaller lakes produced fish during the opener, and anglers were also having some luck in locations with current. According to the Minnesota DNR, walleyes in the area are mostly spawned out. Anglers should slowly fish minnows on jigs or Lindy Rigs at 10 to 15 feet in sandy gravel areas during daylight hours. In the evening, try fishing shallow waters from shore or in moving water."

The cost of marketing, staffing, purchasing raw product, distribution and more puts success out of reach for the average starting entrepreneur. On the other hand, there can be a lot of fun and creativity in your leisure time pouring worms and you may even hit on a color combination or style that will put you ahead of others at your next tournament."

No Boat, No Problem! | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "For those bass anglers that regularly find themselves fishing from the back of a friend's boat, or from the back platform of a boaters rig they drew in a tournament situation, they know all too well the difficulties associated with this arrangement. Don’t Just Fish on the Front Porch | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC

Don’t Just Fish on the Front Porch | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "There have literally been thousands of times out on the water where I have seen anglers severely limit their success with their own poor habits. They will come across a spectacular piece of fish-holding cover and only fish the very outer edges. No matter how many times I have seen it, this still drives me nuts and makes me want to fish the cover as soon as they leave it."

Nano Lure uses a fishbot to catch the big ones

Nano Lure uses a fishbot to catch the big ones: "For many anglers, the repeated casting out and reeling in of the lure is an integral part of the fishing experience. There's also a certain Tom Sawyer-esque appeal, however, to just waiting for the fish to strike a live-baited hook as it hangs below a stationary bobber. The Nano Lure attempts to combine aspects of both approaches. It does away with the casting and reeling, and replaces live bait with a little robotic fish."

You've Got To Be Willing To Lose, To Win | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC

You've Got To Be Willing To Lose, To Win | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "I think every bass tournament angler out there dreams of winning the Bassmasters Classic. To get there is not easy as many anglers can confess.
Many Pros talk often about "Swinging for the fences" when fishing tournaments. But how many anglers listen to that advice? What does that mean? Its simple: To win at any level you've got to be willing to take chances! The big chance that you take is the chance of "losing"!
This whole idea of "swinging for the fences" is a mindset. At any level of tournaments we have to take what is given to us and take advantage of that opportunity. "Swinging for the fences" is fishing a tournament to win, not to lose."
