Pocket : Hot Weather Spooning

Pocket : Hot Weather Spooning: "Spoons come in all shapes and sizes. From the teaspoon-shaped Johnson spoon with one big single hook, to a long, slender slab of lead made for deep water jigging the selection is fairly good.
Fishing spoons in the heat of summer can be some of the most exciting fishing you will ever do. Over thick hydrilla or lily pads, a Johnson spoon is one of the most effective lures you can ever use to draw bass out from under the thick vegetation. I have had some of the most viscous strikes of my life when fishing spoons over matted grass."

Pocket : Mulberry Flies for Michigan Carp

Pocket : Mulberry Flies for Michigan Carp: "I’d been standing in one place for at least 10 minutes, about 35 yards downstream from a mulberry tree, watching the carp mill around the overhanging branches on the Huron River outside Ann Arbor, Michigan. I noticed a fish come out from the bank and settle in slightly deeper water, so I shot a roll cast upstream from it a bit and when I saw the fish come up in the water column toward my slowly sinking purple fly, I set the hook."

Pocket : Stripers at Boone Lake with Lateral Line Charters

Pocket : Stripers at Boone Lake with Lateral Line Charters: "The tip of the rod dipped down, almost into the water from the strike. Like the previous fish, this was a good one. I grabbed the rod and worked it out of the holder in spite of the pressure generated by the surging fish. I looked at Charlie, my grandson, “Do you want this one?”"

Pocket : Texas Angler Reels in 11-foot Tiger Shark from Shore

Pocket : Texas Angler Reels in 11-foot Tiger Shark from Shore: "While some people enjoy Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” in front of a television, others would rather experience these marvelous creatures firsthand. Last Friday, angler Wayne Wimmer landed an 11-foot, four-inch-long tiger shark on a beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was the end result of a grueling three-and-a-half-hour duel with the fish. Wimmer attributes the catch to the support he received from his fishing team as well as the large crowd that had gathered over the course of the reeling in."

Pocket : Fishing for King Salmon in the Midwest

Pocket : Fishing for King Salmon in the Midwest: "I did something last week that I haven’t done for a long time. I went fishing for king salmon. The last time I fished for kings was back in the ’80s. I enjoyed it then, but had just never gotten around to doing it again. So when some friends invited me to join them for a morning of salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, I quickly accepted. This type of fishing is great for a group of anglers who want the chance to catch perhaps the hardest-fighting freshwater fish there is. It’s a simple deal. You do some research on the various charter boats, determine which one best meets your needs, book the trip, and show up at the agreed-upon time. The charter provides pretty much everything but your personal items. Here’s how our trip went."
