StarTribune.com Mobile | News, weather, sports: "Lake Mille Lacs: It was a slow opener on the big lake, coming just three days after the official ice-out on May 7. The spring night ban has been extended and will be in effect until Dec. 1; anglers may not possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. daily. According to Lundeen’s Tackle Castle, anglers should seek warmer waters in the sandy areas on the north end, around Vineland Bay and Big Point. Walleyes still are spawning and won’t be so aggressive, so try to fish slow, small and shallow using medium-sized leeches or minnows.

Alexandria area: Many smaller lakes produced fish during the opener, and anglers were also having some luck in locations with current. According to the Minnesota DNR, walleyes in the area are mostly spawned out. Anglers should slowly fish minnows on jigs or Lindy Rigs at 10 to 15 feet in sandy gravel areas during daylight hours. In the evening, try fishing shallow waters from shore or in moving water."

Accuracy And Shallow-Water Fish | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC

Accuracy And Shallow-Water Fish | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "Spring makes for some pretty exciting fishing because most fish are shallow and you can anticipate strikes as your lure swims into the visible cover.
However, you can’t go down the bank casting wildly at every log or bush and catch lots of fish.  You may catch a few, but you’re cheating yourself out of the fantastic day you may have had by being more specific with your lure presentations."

Seven Swimbait Tricks You Should Know | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC

Seven Swimbait Tricks You Should Know | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® LLC: "Whenever a new lure or technique comes along, it takes awhile for an angler to learn its idiosyncrasies and how to make it work best for him. The Soft-bodied swimbaits, is not the new kid on the block, but is a lure that has helped me boat a lot of fish.
It took me more than a few trips to the lake to figure out how to fish a swimbait well. If you watch my television show, “Hank Parker’s Outdoor Magazine” more than a few times I am certain you have seen me throw a swimbait."
