Gary Engberg: Early river walleye fishing finally arrives : Sports: " was beginning to wonder when the weather would finally moderate -- or get back to normal -- so that anglers could start their late winter or early spring walleye and sauger fishing on the Wisconsin River.

Winter has been the 14th-coldest on record -- and the coldest since 1978-1979. I think we all suffered from cabin fever while dreaming of early open-water fishing on the river. But the time has finally come and there are boats below the Prairie du Sac Dam and other dams with open water up and down the river from Wausau south including dams at the Wisconsin Dells, Castle Rock, and Petenwell."
